The day Ethan was born, the universe got louder and quieter at the same time. Louder with fear, love, and all the questions I didn’t have answers to yet—quieter because nothing else mattered except him. That was the start of our story: not perfect, not simple, but real, and filled with the kind of love that makes you braver than you ever thought you could be.

Ethan growing up hasn’t been a straight line—it’s been a series of adaptations, adjustments, and learning curves. Ethan growing up hasn’t been a straight line—it’s been a series of adaptations, adjustments, and learning curves. We’ve had to become experts in things we never planned to understand: equipment, therapies, health decisions, and the daily reality of complex care. But through it all, Ethan has remained Ethan—strong, stubborn in the best way, and quietly determined. He doesn’t need to fit into the world’s version of “normal” to have a full life. He has his own way of communicating, his own way of shining, and he’s changed everyone around him for the better.

When I look at Ethan now, I don’t just see my child—I see the man he’s become. He’s grown into himself in ways that have nothing to do with walking, talking, or ticking the boxes people use to measure success. Ethan has presence. He has personality. When I look at Ethan now, I don’t just see my child—I see the man he’s become. He’s grown into himself in ways that have nothing to do with walking, talking, or ticking the boxes people use to measure success. Ethan has presence. He has personality. He has a way of communicating that is entirely his, and when you really know him, you understand him. He’s taught me that strength can be quiet, that dignity is built into the everyday, and that a full life is made from connection, comfort, and being seen for who you are.

I started this website because Ethan’s life is worth writing about. Not the “inspirational soundbite” version—the real version. The one made up of routines, tiny wins, hard days, brilliant smiles, and the quiet ways he tells us exactly who he is.
This is a space where I can share Ethan’s world as we live it: what helps, what doesn’t, what makes him laugh, what makes him comfortable, and what makes him feel safe. I also want to change the way people think about disability and complex needs—because Ethan isn’t a tragedy, and he isn’t a headline. He’s Ethan. And he has a life that is full, important, and deeply human.

We use Blyssful as a core part of Ethan’s care delivery and governance, because it gives us one structured place to manage the day-to-day running of a complex package safely and consistently. It supports clear task allocation, shift visibility, and real-time recording, so carers are working from the same expectations rather than relying on memory or informal handovers. For Ethan, where routine, clinical safety, and accountability matter, Blyssful helps us evidence care delivery, maintain continuity across staff, and reduce risk through consistent documentation. It also strengthens professional oversight by making it easier to monitor completion, identify gaps early, and demonstrate that our care is not only person-centred, but auditable and compliant—supporting safeguarding, quality assurance, and a higher standard of communication across the wider MDT.

We use ATLAS eMAR to manage Ethan’s medication administration in a controlled, auditable way that aligns with best practice for complex care. By moving from paper-based records to an electronic MAR, we maintain clear, time-stamped evidence of what has been administered, by whom, and when—supporting safe handovers, reducing transcription
We use ATLAS eMAR to manage Ethan’s medication administration in a controlled, auditable way that aligns with best practice for complex care. By moving from paper-based records to an electronic MAR, we maintain clear, time-stamped evidence of what has been administered, by whom, and when—supporting safe handovers, reducing transcription errors, and strengthening accountability across the team. ATLAS eMAR also supports consistent adherence to medication protocols (including PRN decision-making, omission reasons, and escalation where doses are delayed or missed), and provides a reliable audit trail for oversight, governance, and safeguarding. In a package like Ethan’s—where medication safety is high-risk and clinical routines must be consistent—ATLAS eMAR helps ensure accuracy, transparency, and continuity across all staff and shifts.

We use Connecteam to support the workforce side of Ethan’s care package—keeping staffing organised, compliant, and consistent across shifts. It helps us manage rotas and availability, track attendance and timekeeping, and maintain clearer communication without relying on informal channels. For a high-dependency package like Ethan’s, this matters because safe care depends on the right staff being in the right place at the right time, with clear expectations and reliable oversight. Connecteam also supports accountability by giving a documented record of shift activity and key communications, strengthening operational governance and reducing the risk of gaps in cover, missed updates, or confusion around responsibilities.

We use Caring for Care training because it gives our team a consistent, recognised foundation of learning that aligns with safe practice, compliance expectations, and evidence-based standards. We use Caring for Care training because it gives our team a consistent, recognised foundation of learning that aligns with safe practice, compliance expectations, and evidence-based standards. In Ethan’s package, care is complex and high-risk, so we cannot rely on informal “on the job” learning or individual habits—training has to be structured, trackable, and refreshed. Caring for Care supports this by providing accredited or widely accepted modules that underpin core competencies such as safeguarding, medication awareness, infection prevention and control, moving and handling principles, MCA/DoLS awareness, professional boundaries, and record keeping. It also supports governance: we can evidence training completion, maintain a clear training matrix, identify gaps quickly, and demonstrate that staff competency is being built and maintained over time. Ultimately, we use it to protect Ethan’s safety and dignity while also protecting staff by ensuring they have clear knowledge, consistent expectations, and a defensible standard of practice.

We use Newlyn Healthcare for servicing, PAT testing, and wider equipment checks because Ethan’s package depends on specialist, safety-critical equipment that must be maintained to a demonstrably safe standard. With hoists, tracking systems, charging equipment, pumps, and other electrical devices in regular use, reliable servicing is not optional—it is part of risk management and safeguarding. Newlyn provides scheduled inspections, certification, and clear documentation, which gives us an auditable trail showing that equipment has been tested, maintained, and deemed safe for use. That supports compliance expectations, protects Ethan and staff from avoidable harm (for example, equipment failure, electrical faults, or unsafe moving-and-handling equipment), and reduces downtime by ensuring issues are identified early and rectified promptly. In short, we use Newlyn to keep Ethan’s environment safe, operational, and accountable.
